BasicsPNW works to facilitate and create innovative programs that are aimed at fulfilling people’s basic needs so that everyone has a chance to reach their fullest potential and thrive.

We see a person's basic needs as food, water, shelter, security, community, and a personal connection. We believe everyone is entitled to these needs regardless of race, gender, income, citizenship, criminal record, or ability.

Only once these needs are met, is a person able to work on their personal goals and succeed. We believe that when one group of our community suffers, the entire community suffers.

BasicsPNW upholds the following core values in their programs and promotes them throughout their partner organizations and the non-profit community as a whole.

Equity

BasicsPNW recognizes that our nation’s actions, past and present, have resulted in

ongoing disparities toward certain groups of people. We recognize the limitations in our ability to address them, but nonetheless strive to ensure that every group of people are represented through our programs and partners. We believe in an equitable, just, and fair society that listens to and values the voices of those who have been marginalized, oppressed, and underrepresented in our community. We believe that in prioritizing a diverse perspective and striving to be inclusive, we will be able to make a more positive impact on our community overall.

To ensure that we can do this, BasicsPNW commits to addressing our own biases, challenging the status quo, and evaluating each program and decision we make with equity in the forefront. We recognize that our intentions alone will not change things and that only through continued practice will we be able to move toward a more equitable community.

Community

BasicsPNW is committed to fostering personal connections between individuals in order

to strengthen the community as a whole. We believe in the value of diverse backgrounds and experiences, and the richness they can bring to a community. We believe that in order to create a more inclusive community, we must better understand the people we share that community with, and provide everyone with a sense of belonging and value. Basics strives to create a diverse community where everyone is treated with dignity, respect, empathy, compassion, and understanding.

Basics is committed to making these connections through all of their programs and partners by creating ways for different community groups to interact in deep, personal ways. We recognize that our own organization may at times not represent the diverse community members we strive to connect and we are committed to evaluating our own Board, volunteers, and staff to make changes when needed. It is through this diverse community of BasicsPNW members that we can foster a community that values and respects one another.

Innovation

BasicsPNW values the innovation of new and out of the box ideas for meeting people’s

basic needs. We believe that there are many ways to do one thing and that through a diverse community, we can create programs that come from people’s lived experiences and collaborate with people that can make them happen. We believe in the grassroots effort for change and aim to foster and grow that in our programs and partners.

In order to fill the gaps that exist in services, Basics strives to listen to and foster the ideas of everyone with an idea. We will work to collaborate so that we do not repeat services that can be found elsewhere in order to maximize our impact in our community.

Empowerment

BasicsPNW believes that by meeting people’s basic needs and building caring

relationships where people feel supported and valued, people will feel empowered to reach their fullest potential and thrive. We believe that only once people feel empowered can real change happen in our community and in individuals. We strive to empower everyone we work with through our programs and partner organizations. We believe that empowerment can happen slowly, over time, or it can happen quickly, and we are dedicated to helping people find their power however we can.

"We believe that every person should have access to food and water, a place to call home, a sense of community and belonging, and personal security."
